Amazon ASIN Limits for New Sellers Explained (2026)
New Amazon accounts can only create a limited number of new ASINs per week. That single rule explains most 'my 3,000 products went Inactive' posts.
What the ASIN limit is
Amazon applies a listing-creation allowance to newer selling accounts: a cap on how many brand-new ASINs you can create in a rolling week. It exists to stop catalog abuse — duplicate ASINs, spam listings, and untested sellers flooding categories.
The number is account-specific and not published. It grows as your account matures: consistent sales, healthy account metrics, low defect rates and time on the platform all push it up.
What it is not
- It is not a limit on how many products you can sell. Attaching an offer to an ASIN that already exists in Amazon's catalog does not consume the allowance.
- It is not a suspension or a policy strike.
- It does not deactivate listings you already published.
Why your catalog looks broken
You upload 3,000 supplier SKUs. A few hundred publish. The rest show as unpublished, incomplete or Inactive with no clear message. Sellers assume their data is wrong, re-upload, and make things worse by creating duplicates. In reality a large chunk is simply waiting on the allowance window.
How to raise your limit
- Sell. Order volume and time on platform are the biggest inputs.
- Keep account health green — low Order Defect Rate, no late shipments, no policy violations.
- Avoid creating duplicate ASINs; attach offers to existing ASINs by GTIN whenever possible.
- Enrol in Brand Registry if you own a brand — it materially improves catalog trust.
- Open a case with Seller Support asking for a listing-creation limit review once you have a sales history.
How to publish a large catalog anyway
- Match before you create. Every SKU that attaches to an existing ASIN costs you nothing from the allowance. Barcode matching alone can cut new-ASIN demand dramatically for wholesale and branded catalogs.
- Prioritise. Publish your best-margin, fastest-moving SKUs first instead of alphabetically.
- Batch and retry. Queue the rest and resubmit automatically each time the window resets.
- Separate the two failure types. "Waiting on ASIN allowance" and "rejected for missing attributes" need completely different actions — treating them the same is why sellers burn weeks.
SellerApex does all four automatically: it matches existing ASINs by GTIN and title, ranks the queue, resubmits on each new allowance window, and labels every waiting SKU so you know what is blocked by data and what is blocked by Amazon's cap.
Fix it automatically: SellerApex is an Amazon Appstore–approved app that moves your whole supplier catalog to Amazon in about 47 seconds, auto-fixes the rejections that cause Inactive listings, and keeps stock and price in sync.
